Juara 1 DASH 2023

The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) received another good news. On Saturday (23/09), two FEB UGM student teams succeeded in making brilliant achievements in the Diponegoro Accounting’s Harmony (DASH) 2023 event. This is an accounting paper competition held by the Universitas Diponegoro Accounting Department Student Association. DASH 2023 carries the theme “Facing the Global Economic Shockwaves: Strategic Role of the Accounting Profession for Maintaining Financial Stability” as an effort to support the preparation of accounting practitioners who are more competent, adaptive and resilient in facing the phenomenon of digitalization-oriented business transformation. This competition consists of three stages, namely the abstract collection stage, the paper collection stage, and the main round stage.

The two teams are as follows.

  • The Bircotem team won first place, consisting of 2021 Accounting students: Alberta Sakanti Sitakara, Clara Alverina Laurensia, and Putri Nafisah Intani.
  • The Roro Jonggrang team won third place, consisting of 2021 Accounting students: Nagma Nasywa Assegaf, Aulia Nurussyifa, and Alrienta Nur Aunillah.

The topic raised by the Bircotem Team in this competition came from the rise of sustainability issues, which have made the need for Comprehensive Corporate Reporting (CCR) or reports containing financial and nonfinancial information increasingly popular nowadays. However, the audit process for nonfinancial reporting has yet to be expected, so there is the possibility of fraudulent practices in reporting company activities. The role of external auditors is needed to ensure that the nonfinancial reports provided are accountable, complete, accurate and transparent. “Therefore, our team conducted this research to analyze the role of external auditors and the challenges faced by external auditors in assuring CCR,” explained Intan as team leader.

Meanwhile, the Roro Jonggrang Team raised the financial technology subtheme and discussed the problem of online loans, often called pinjol. According to Nasywa, as team leader, this topic was raised because pinjol is a problem that has yet to be resolved until now and is still recurring. In its analysis, the Roro Jonggrang Team looks at this phenomenon from the illegal side and discusses the legal side. “Therefore, we analyzed the features of similar legal loans to be trimmed to make them more effective and efficient by utilizing the role of management accountants and external auditors,” added Nasywa.

These two papers succeeded in making the Bircotem Team and Roro Jonggrang Team the ten best teams to qualify for the Main Round stage. At this stage, the ten teams presented their papers to the jury. The two FEB UGM teams managed to qualify to become the five best teams who continued to the Case Study stage. The remaining five teams presented the analysis results and ideas from the case study obtained in front of the judges. Thanks to serious struggle, the Bircotem and the Roro Jonggrang teams brought home the first and third-place awards on Saturday, September 23 2023.

“This was quite a challenging experience, because we were only given one night to analyze cases that we rarely study in lectures, then had to present them in front of the jury the next morning,” said Intan as Head of the Bircotem Team. Clara and Kara as team members also shared their experiences during the competition that critical thinking and public speaking skills were important keys in participating in this competition.

Congratulations to the Bircotem Team and the Roro Jonggrang Team for the brilliant achievements they have achieved!
