HSBC Business Case Competition 2022

The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) is once again proud because a team of students has succeeded in attaining achievements on a national level. The FEB UGM Student Team, named Fantastic Four, consisting of Yohana Maurenneta (Accounting 2020), Gary Neville (Management 2020), Ardelia Grandiva Ciptamurti (Economics 2020), and Felicia Angelina (Accounting 2020) won first place in the HSBC Business Case Competition 2022. HSBC Business Case Competition is an annual business case competition, which is participated in by undergraduate students from the economics and business faculties from various leading universities in Indonesia. The competition was organized by PT Bank HSBC Indonesia (HSBC Indonesia) and involved judges from the company’s executive ranks and also experts in the business/corporate fields.

HSBC Business Case Competition is one of the most well-known business case competitions in Indonesia and worldwide. The Fantastic Four team managed to rise above 17 teams from other universities in the preliminary and battle rounds. In the final round, which was held on March 30-31, the Fantastic Four Team managed to beat two other teams coming from Bina Nusantara University and University of Indonesia. For this victory, the Fantastic Four Team will represent Indonesia in a similar international-scale competition for the Asia Pacific region, being the HSBC/HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Competition.

The competition mechanism for HSBC Business Case Competition is carried out by giving a real business case to each team, with each team being asked to provide recommendations for solutions to these problems and present them in front of a panel of qualified judges. In this year’s competition, the business case given was the case regarding the Xiaomi company/brand. To solve the case, the Fantastic Four Team used a COMPLETE & REVISE strategy where COMPLETE is a supply chain strategy and REVISE is a marketing strategy.

To become a champion in this competition is not easy. However, the Fantastic Four Team must remain optimistic, whilst maintaining a high level of determination and belief, as well as giving maximum effort. With that, the next achievement can certainly be attained. We wish the Fantastic Four Team congratulations and good luck in representing Indonesia in the upcoming competition!
