Juara 3 Deloitte Tax Challenge 2023

The Faculty of Economics and Business Student Team, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), made another brilliant achievement in the national competition. This time, the Undergraduate Accounting Study Program students who are members of the Bulaksumur Tax Society (BTS) Team won the Second Runner-Up position (Third Place) in the 2023 Deloitte Tax Challenge. The BTS team, which consists of Adisty Cantika Paramadhina (Accounting-IUP 2020 ), Afif Haidar Endraswara (Accounting-IUP 2020), Azzahra Aulia Hasibuan (Accounting 2020), dan Felicia Angelina (Accounting 2020) demonstrated their extraordinary skills and abilities in the field of taxation, thus achieving this proud achievement.

A competition event held by one of the world-class Public Accountant companies, Big Four, consists of three stages that test participants’ reasoning abilities and creativity in solving real business cases around taxes. Starting from the preliminary stage through collecting videos with the theme of tax implications during a global recession, the BTS team successfully passed the initial step. It moved on to the semifinal stage, held online on February 3 2023. Participants were challenged to resolve tax cases within two clocks in the semifinal stage and present it virtually. This competition requires good analytical and strategic skills in solving complex issues, which becomes a big challenge for the participants.

Of the 15 participating teams, the BTS Team was selected as one of the six finalists summoned to Deloitte The Plaza Office Tower. In the final round, held on 17 February 2023, the finalists faced two international tax cases, which had to be completed within 90 minutes and presented live in front of a panel of judges consisting of partners at Deloitte Southeast Asia. The BTS team managed to captivate the judges and win the title of Second Runner-Up against three teams from the University of Indonesia and a team from the Trisakti School of Management.

Felicia Angelina, one of the participants, shared her experience in the Deloitte Tax Challenge 2023 event. She felt she gained valuable new experiences despite the limited time in the finals. She can explore more things outside lecture material regarding hard skills and train communication skills and critical thinking in soft skills because the cases given are very challenging. However, the competition was fierce because the participants came from well-known universities. Felicia remains grateful and proud of her achievements with the Bulaksumur Tax Society Team in this prestigious event.

We congratulate the BTS team for winning the competition. We hope this achievement can continue to increase every year and inspire FEB UGM students to continue to achieve glorious achievements in the future.
