Once again, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), has garnered a proud achievement. Team Outgrowth, composed of Ali Alexander (Management 2021), Rega Sandinata (Management 2021), and Elsa Firlyani (Management and Property Appraisal SV 2021), clinched first place in the Equity Research Paper Competition Investment Talk & Veteran Stock Festival (I-VEST) 2023. This competition was organized by the Capital Market Study Group of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Yogyakarta (KSPM FEB UPNVY).
Conducted online from September 1 to September 30, 2023, Team Outgrowth had to analyze a company's stocks in-depth, ultimately making decisions to sell, buy, or hold. They chose the PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk stocks, which led them to be one of the ten teams eligible to compete in the grand final round. In the final stage, they had to present their findings before the judging panel.
"We didn't expect it because we felt we weren't at our best during the Q&A session; there was a miscommunication at that time," recounted Ali Alexander (Management 2021), one of the representatives from Team Outgrowth. He said the most significant challenge during the presentation was to comprehensively answer the judges' questions. However, he believed this challenge could be overcome if they understood their work.
Additionally, Ali emphasized several other preparations, ranging from having a good internet connection and evenly distributing tasks to helping each other during the Q&A session. Ali also shared tips for friends who intend to participate in equity research competitions. In a team, various members should have expertise, ranging from finance to design. Slide design and presentation style are also crucial because both serve as mediums to interactively convey their findings. "Even if you lose, consider it a learning experience because there will usually be evaluation sheets we can use for future improvement," Ali concluded.
Congratulations to Team Outgrowth on this remarkable achievement!
