Fortuna Team Wins 2nd Place at Diponegoro National Capital Market Investment Competition 2024

The Fortuna Team of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), achieved remarkable success in the Diponegoro National Capital Market Competition. The team, consisting of Alif Hasan Ramadhan (Accounting 2022), Muhammad Rizqy Al Farisi (Accounting 2021), and Martinus Kurnia Yunaiko Putra (International Relations Science 2021), secured second place in the competition held on August 30-31 at Diponegoro University, Semarang.

The Diponegoro National Capital Market Competition is organized by the Capital Market Study Group (KSPM) of FEB Diponegoro University as part of the Diponegoro Capital Market Day event. This year’s competition attracted 39 teams from various universities in Indonesia and some other countries.

“I am proud to represent FEB UGM as the only representative of UGM in this competition,” said Muhammad Al Farisi in an interview on Thursday (September 12).

Muhammad Al Farisi explained that the Fortuna team had to go through three stages of selection: preliminary, semi-final, and final. In the preliminary and semi-final rounds, all teams were asked to write investment research papers on IDX: INKP and IDX: BYAN. In the final round, the top teams had to present their research.

“We were tasked with conducting equity research. We conducted an in-depth analysis to evaluate specific companies’ or industries’ performance and prospects,” Al Farisi explained.

In the financial world, equity research is critical to helping investors gain deeper insights into market and company dynamics while minimizing the risks associated with investment decisions. Analysis involves reviewing financial reports, industry trends, market conditions, and company management. Equity analysts use quantitative data such as sales, earnings, financial ratios, and growth projections to assess the fair value of a company’s stock. In addition, research considers external factors such as government policies, interest rates, and market sentiment to evaluate potential risks and investment opportunities.

The result of investment research is typically in the form of a report that includes fundamental analysis and recommendations such as “buy,” “hold,” or “sell” for specific stocks. Institutional and individual investors use this report to make more informed investment decisions,” he explained.
