FEB UGM students have once again achieved national recognition. The Kimbub Team, consisting of Alyssa Novelia (Accounting 2024), Zhafira Putri Miranda (Accounting 2024), and Muhammad Adiyaksa Maulana Tsaqif (Accounting 2024), won 2nd place in the 4th Conference of Business and Professional Accounting Students (KIMBAP #4) organized by Sanata Dharma University (USD).
The competition consisted of two stages. The preliminary round took place online from 11 to 19 September 2025, while the final round was held on 9 October 2025 at Driyakara Hall, Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta. The event attracted dozens of teams from various universities across Indonesia, including Sanata Dharma University, Hasanuddin University, Satya Wacana Christian University, Jenderal Soedirman University, and Universitas Gadjah Mada.
All participants were required to submit a scientific paper on the central theme of the competition at the preliminary stage. The five best teams advanced to the final round to deliver their presentations before the judges. This year’s competition challenged participants to address a case on auditor innovation amid technological advancements, offering inspiring subtopics such as the development of interactive dashboards, the utilization of cloud computing, and other ideas related to digital integration. The Kimbub Team chose to focus on a case study involving PT PLN (Persero).
According to Alyssa Novelia, one of the team members, the idea emerged when they were exploring financial reports of large companies and came across PLN’s Whistleblowing System website. From there, they discovered that the platform still faced several challenges, particularly regarding its user interface and the protection of whistleblower identities.
“There are still some issues with PLN’s Whistleblowing System, even though it plays a crucial role in ensuring corporate accountability,” said Alyssa.
The team conducted an in-depth analysis of PLN’s whistleblowing system development from 2014 to 2024, comparing the evolution of reporting methods from physical documents and emails to a web-based system. However, they also noted that the current system remains insufficiently integrated and not yet fully efficient. Based on their analysis, they proposed a design innovation and evaluation model to help PLN enhance transparency and internal control effectiveness.
The Kimbub Team secured 2nd place after delivering a strong and well-structured presentation.
“We hope to write even stronger papers in the future, especially in the evaluation section that the judges highlighted,” Alyssa added.
During their preparation, they received significant support from the academic community, including feedback from their advisor, Gunawan Wibisono, S.E., M.Acc., CA., as well as senior students who helped review their paper and presentation.
All three agreed that participating in KIMBAP #4 was more than just a competition; it was a valuable learning experience that broadened their professional perspective as future accountants.
“This competition made us realize that the future of accounting will rely heavily on technology. The real challenge is not only to keep up with change but also to think creatively and innovate,” they concluded.
