Mastering technical skills is not the only asset needed to succeed in the professional world. Entrepreneur and content creator Raymond Chin asserts that mastery of soft skills, such as communication and empathy, is the main foundations that determine a person’s success in business. According to him, these two skills cannot be replaced by technology, and they decide whether a person is capable of building relationships, leading, and thriving in an ever-changing industry.
“Understanding others and knowing how to be a leader with these two skills, we will never be replaced by technology,” he said.
During the Career Insight Talk Show at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP UGM) on Saturday (11/15/2025), Raymond explained that career paths often involve uncertainty. He admitted that he once felt confused about his own life goals.
“At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to be,” he revealed.
During college, Raymond admitted that he was not an active student and did not have a remarkable portfolio. However, a turning point came when his father passed away, making him determined to succeed and make his mother proud. That moment led him to discover his “life compass,” a guide that has guided every step of his career, from building a creative agency to pioneering a start-up and becoming a content creator.
Raymond Chin explains that career paths can change at any time. However, our life compass will always steer us back to the same point. He gives the example of changes in digital content trends. When public interest shifted from educational content to news-based content, he did not cling to his idealism alone. He chose to adapt by creating news with an educational style without losing his distinctive characteristics.
As content creators, we will fade away if we cannot adapt,” he said.
In addition to technical skills, Raymond emphasizes the importance of mastering soft skills, such as communication and empathy, especially for those starting a business. According to him, these two skills are valuable assets because they are closely related to the ability to build relationships and establish trust.
“Understanding others and knowing how to be a leader, with these two skills, we will never be replaced by technology,” he said.
