Are you a dessert lover? At the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), there is a matcha bar and dessert shop that offers premium burnt cheesecake at affordable prices. Naroo provides a variety of desserts, including Basque burnt cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, brownies, and premium carrot cake, at very affordable prices.
Five FEB UGM students initiated this business in January 2022 through the Student Entrepreneurship Programme (PMW) and have continued to grow to this day. Founded by Octavia Rachmadani, Wahyu Devi Setyawati, Maslikhatul Umami, Wandana Karuna Pradopo, and Ghina Shabrina, Naroo is a dessert brand characterised by premium ingredients, contemporary presentation, and innovative flavours tailored to the trends of the younger generation.
“We want to offer desserts that are not only delicious but also provide a memorable visual and taste experience,’ explained Octavia.
Naroo not only offers desserts, but also matcha drinks sweetened with stevia. The combination of stevia sweetener and matcha has become one of Naroo’s signature menu items, which is quite popular among young people.
“Matcha sweetened with stevia is suitable for those who want to reduce their calorie and sugar intake but still satisfy their sweet tooth,” she explained.
To expand distribution access, Naroo has partnered with food e-commerce platforms, including ShopeeFood. Through this collaboration, they aim to make it easier for customers to access Naroo.
The use of colourful visuals and aesthetic packaging further strengthens Naroo’s brand identity among young people. In addition to the concept and theme that give buyers positive energy to start their day, Naroo also emphasises unique flavours. They maintain authenticity to enhance the customer experience when purchasing products.
“We hope that Naroo can become an icon of premium desserts made by UGM students, while also proving that creativity and hard work can create sustainable business opportunities,” she said.
For dessert and matcha lovers, Naroo is a worthwhile option to try. The location is easily accessible, situated on the first floor of the Pertamina Tower FEB UGM building, and the atmosphere is perfect for relaxing while enjoying affordable premium menu items.
