BI Corner

Bank of Indonesia (BI) provides assistance to social programs for a few universities in Yogyakarta such as UGM, UNY, UMY, and UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Saturday (11/14), in the Senate Hall of UGM. BI also provides social assistance through access to clean water to Rejosari Village, Kulonprogo regency. The distribution of aid was forwarded by BI governor, Agus D. W. Martowardojo to the representatives from the universities. The social aid was given in a BI Corner form, which is internet based library that can be accessed by students.

Besides, BI  plan to build BI park on UGM socio-humanities area later on. The park will be completed with wi-fi, drinks provision, acoustic and green area.

Agus D. W. Martowardojo said BI as a state institution believed to maintain financial stability and the authority of the circulation of money has a duty to encourage economic improvement. Visit to Yogyakarta was caused by its potential as tourism area which attract international tourists.

“Yogyakarta is a fast-growing economy which is expected to help the growth of Indonesia’s economy. People tend to spend their time in Yogyakarta for vacation in 1 to 10 days period, and we proved it by staying here for 3 days,” Agus explained.

Our agenda while we are in Yogyakarta include economic assessment based on regional perspective, discussion with UGM’s experts, and the distribution of social aids. The assessment was done by central government, local government and BI aim to coordinate the policy applied so that it is consistent and sustained. They work together to raise tourism industry in Indonesia.

“BI did an assessment on international airport construction which is planned to take place in Kulonprogo airfield area. BI also has held a public discussion with few UGM professors,” Agus added.

In the mean time, UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D expresses her gratitude for the aid that BI has granted as the aid means much for universities in Yogyakarta.

“This event could motivate student’s creativity. This is a form of attentiveness by BI for Indonesian universities, especially in Yogyakarta,” Dwikorita said.
