AMRO and the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) jointly convened a seminar themed “Navigating Global Uncertainty: Sustaining Growth and Stability in ASEAN” as part of AMRO’s outreach for its flagship publications—the ASEAN+3 Regional Economic Outlook (AREO) 2026 and ASEAN+3 Fiscal Policy Report (AFPR) 2026. The seminar was held on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at the Function Hall, 8th Floor, Learning Centre Building, FEB UGM.
The seminar brought together academics, policymakers, economists, and students to exchange views on the regional economic outlook and fiscal policy priorities amid heightened geopolitical tensions, economic fragmentation, and renewed external risks, including energy price volatility.
Featuring presentations by Byunghoon Nam, Deputy Group Head and Senior Economist AMRO and Catharine Kho, Senior Economist AMRO and a panel discussion with representatives from academia and public institutions: Denni Puspa Purbasari, Economist, FEB UGM; Juli BudiWinantya, Director of the Department of Economic and Monetary Policy, Bank Indonesia; Allen Ng, Group Head and Lead Economist, AMRO; and Seung Hyun Hong, Group Head and Lead Economist, AMRO, the seminar examined regional growth prospects, fiscal developments, and policy options for navigating a more challenging external environment.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FEB UGM, Didi Achjari highlighted the value of stronger engagement between academia and international organizations in responding to evolving economic challenges.
“This seminar takes place at a crucial moment when the ASEAN economy have demonstrated resilience amid increasingly complex global challenges, making the discussions highly relevant and important,” he explained
While AMRO Deputy Director Abdurohman underscored the importance of safeguarding fiscal sustainability and strengthening policy coordination in his closing remarks.
“We thank FEB UGM for helping bring AMRO’s regional analysis into a rich dialogue to academics, policymakers, economists, and students,” he said.
The seminar formed part of the collaboration between AMRO and FEB UGM to promote informed policy dialogue and knowledge-sharing on regional macroeconomic and fiscal developments.
