Amid the growing complexity of the financial sector, research findings often serve as a roadmap for policymakers. To encourage the development of research that is not only academically rigorous but also capable of providing evidence-based recommendations for policymaking in the financial sector, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) collaborated with the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), to hold a socialization session for the LPS Call for Research 2026 program on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Multimedia Room of FEB UGM.
The Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs of FEB UGM, Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of collaboration between LPS and the UGM academic community in promoting evidence-based policymaking in the financial sector.
“We hope that the research capabilities cultivated at FEB UGM can make a tangible contribution, not only to undergraduate theses, master’s theses, and dissertations, but also to producing valuable recommendations for policymakers,” he said.
Nata Buana, S.E., M.IntEcon&Fin, a member of the LPS Research Team, explained the strategic role of LPS as one of the four pillars of Indonesia’s Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), alongside the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
“LPS may operate at the final stage, but its role is no less important. We safeguard public trust in the banking system, and banking is fundamentally an industry built on trust,” Nata Buana explained.
The limited research on deposit insurance, financial system stability, and consumer protection is one of the challenges LPS seeks to address through its annual research program. This year, the LPS Call for Research 2026 carries the theme, “Optimizing the Role of the Financial Sector in Supporting the Acceleration of National Economic Growth and Improving Public Welfare.”
The competition offers a range of subtopics, including deposit insurance programs, insurance policy guarantees, bank resolution, banking restructuring, financial system stability, improving financial inclusion and literacy, and banking and insurance based on Islamic principles.
The competition is open under three categories: the general public, doctoral (Ph.D.) students, and diploma (D4), undergraduate (S1), and master’s (S2) students. Participants may compete individually or in teams. Unlike conventional research competitions, the LPS Call for Research places policy impact as one of the key evaluation criteria.
The competition timeline begins with the submission deadline on September 25, 2026, followed by the research paper evaluation process from September 28 to October 2, 2026, research paper clarification on October 20, 2026, and culminates in the LPS Research Fair, which will be held on November 11–12, 2026, in Jakarta. Further information about the program is available on https://cfr.lps.go.id.
Through this initiative, LPS and FEB UGM hope to encourage more academics and students to address the existing research gaps in deposit insurance systems and the financial sector. Beyond academic purposes, the program aims to generate policy recommendations that are relevant and impactful, contributing to financial system stability and sustainable national economic growth.
