Orientation Day as an introduction to FEB UGM to International Students

With more than 50 partner universities, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) is the home of over 150 international undergraduate students every year. This week on February 7th 2019, FEB UGM welcomed 23 international undergraduate students from 10 partner universities spread across 5 countries (University of Groningen, Arnhem Business School, ESSCA, TBS Barcelona, Burgundy School of Business, Johannes Kepler University, WU Vienna University of Economics and Business, Pforzheim University, University of Wollongong and Macquarie University) in its Spring Semester Orientation Day 2018/2019.
This orientation day was intended to give students information about academic facilities, offered courses, SINTESIS (Faculty Economics and Business’ Integrated Information System) and other technical information such as parking area, canteen, on campus dress code etc. The materials presented in the seminars were expected to ease international students in adapting to their new academic environment. The event was opened by Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Mahfud Sholihin, M. Acc., Ph. D. and attended by FEB’s officials namely Dr. Fuad Rahman, M. Sc. (Secretary of Undergraduate Study Program in Accounting), Dr. Budi Santoso, M. Bus. (Head of Department of Management), Dr. Reni Rosari, MBA. (Secretary of Department of Management), Dr. Rimawan Pradiptyo, M. Sc. (Head of Department of Economics) and Dr. Heni Wahyuni, M. Ec. Dev. (Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Economics) that gave briefs explanation regarding the offered courses in FEB UGM. The representation of students from Global Leadership Forum (GLF FEB UGM) and Student Executive Board (BEM KM FEB UGM) also joined the event to give some information related to student community and activity as well as to introduce cultural program exposures that in accordance with UGM’s vision as locally rooted and globally respected university. Silke Irmscher, an expert and trainer in intercultural understanding, was also invited in the event to help prepare the students in adapting to any culture shocks that may happen during the study.
As a closing, international students enjoyed campus tour guided by student ambassadors followed by online courses registration.
