The 33rd European Association for International Education

Representing the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), Prof. Didi Achjari as Dean, accompanied by the Global Relations and Mobility Office (GREAT) team, attended the 33rd European Association for International Education (EAIE) Annual Conference and Exhibition, which took place on 26-29 September in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Before the EAIE conference, the FEB UGM delegation was invited to attend a pre-EAIE event organized by Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) with the theme International Partners Day on Monday, 25 September 2023. This activity aligns with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 17: Partnership to Achieve Goals.

On International Partners Day, the attendees were presented with various sustainability and societal impact agendas. While celebrating its 110th anniversary, Erasmus University Rotterdam shared its experiences in Online Education (the Erasmian Way), Repairing Institutions for A Just and Sustainable Future, Societal Impact, Student Career & Employability, and Student Well-being. The participants were also introduced to the “I Will” Campaign initiated by one of the EUR’s schools, the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). This campaign is the RSM’s forward-thinking community of students, researchers, staff, professors, and alumni to the school with a mission to be a force for positive change in the world. This is also integrated across all their programmes and embedded in the learning goals and objectives defined in every RSM programme. Adding to the main agendas, EUR also took the participants for a campus tour to complete the experience for the whole event.

Continuing the agenda, Prof. Didi and the team attended the EAIE Conference, which took place at Rotterdam Ahoy, Rotterdam, Netherlands. The 33rd annual EAIE conference carried the sustainability and social impact theme in line with the SDGs. On the first day, participants were introduced to EAIE and how this association works, not only in Europe but also throughout the world. In the following days, many sessions were held to enrich the participants’ experience. Prof. Didi and the team attended several sessions, especially those aligned with the FEB UGM Vision, Mission, and Internationalization Strategy Plan. Apart from that, EAIE also provides exhibition. This is an excellent opportunity for FEB to meet and maintain relationships with its international partners and expand new collaboration opportunities. In this event, Prof. Didi and the team met with various FEB partners, such as Smith Business School; Queen’s University, Canada; Goethe Frankfurt University, Germany; University of Agder, Norway; ICHEC Belgium; Orebro University, Sweden; Queen Mary University London; as well as the University of Antwerp; Belgium.

FEB UGM also visited the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen (FEB UG) to discuss further expanding the existing collaborations. The discussion highlighted the potential collaboration in Dual Degree for Postgraduate programs, joint research and publication, and academic exchange. Furthermore, FEB UGM and FEB UG also discussed the summer program 2024 as part of the collaboration between UGM, UG and NTU, Singapore. Moreover, Prof. Didi and the team took the time to meet FEB students who are currently studying in EUR and UG. Knowing that the students were doing great and having a good experience was the joyful wrap-up to the whole visit to the Netherlands.
