The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM, as part of UGM, has a solid commitment to becoming a sustainable campus. This aligns with the new vision and mission set to become a leading economics and business faculty while developing future leaders in economics and business to develop aspects of sustainability.

Dean of FEB UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com., Ak., CA., said that FEB UGM, with its new mission, is committed to supporting sustainable efforts in various aspects of institutional management. “We realize this support in various educational, research and community service activities,” he explained on Wednesday (8/5) at the FEB UGM Campus.

To create a sustainable campus, FEB UGM has implemented comprehensive planning for curriculum, governance, and cultural development among FEB students, lecturers, and professional staff, as well as sustainable campus facilities. This initiative is carried out to minimize negative impacts on the environment and improve social and economic welfare.

One of the initiatives realized was organizing the ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management program with the University of Agder and AUN-BE, which offers a collaborative MBA program. This program brings together academic and practical perspectives to address sustainable challenges. A multidisciplinary approach ranging from business school knowledge, such as finance and marketing, to business strategy and ethics combined with expertise and experience from environmental sciences, such as forestry, agronomy and engineering, makes this master’s program superior and unique.

Another initiative is establishing international cooperation on the topic of sustainability. For example, the Master’s Study Program double degree collaboration with the University of Glasgow with the determination of superior research topics in the field of sustainability and development of future leaders, as well as waste management that upholds sustainability principles.

“This is by FEB UGM’s commitment to adhere to five basic values, one of which is social concern,” he explained.

Didi said that FEB UGM has a commitment and sincerity to participate and be actively involved in handling and solving various economic, business and social problems society faces. Not only that, FEB UGM is also committed to preserving the environment and behaving in an environmentally friendly manner.

As a higher education institution that has been accredited by national (LAMEMBA) and international accreditation institutions (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business/AACSB), FEB UGM has the mandate to be at the forefront in developing future leaders in the fields of management, accounting and economics in developing sustainable aspects. FEB UGM is developing various programs and initiatives listed in the 2023-2027 FEB UGM Strategic Plan (RENSTRA) to strengthen this position. The strategic plan was developed based on four pillars: servant and innovative leadership, information technology-based business process transformation, focus on human resources, and collaboration with strategic partners.

“There are six goals, 23 targets, and 68 programs to make FEB a sustainable campus, all of which require the support and collaboration of all academics, including students, lecturers, professional staff, alumni, and domestic and foreign partners,” he explained.

The sixty-eight programs established aim not only to produce graduates who can become leaders with integrity, competence, innovation and sustainable insight. However, it is also aimed at generating thought leadership and societal impact in the field of sustainability, improving the quality of human resources, improving the quality of the supporting ecosystem with a sustainable perspective, and strengthening a sustainable, healthy, environmentally friendly, cultural and socially responsible campus atmosphere.
