FEB UGM's Master's in Development Economics (MEP) program, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA, conducted a beach clean-up at Pantak Baron Beach, Gunungkidul Regency. The beach clean-up was organized as part of their efforts to raise environmental awareness.
Dr. Akhmad Akbar Susamto, Chair of MEP FEB UGM Study Program, explained that the beach cleaning activity was part of the Mini Colloquium on Southeast Asian Economic Development, which has been held at the Mubyarto Auditorium, MEP since Tuesday (29 October). The mini-seminar has been designed to include environmental games focusing on conservation.
"The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about environmental issues. More than just an academic forum, this event also allows participants to exchange views and discuss inclusive and sustainable development policies, accompanied by concrete action as participants clean up Baron Beach in Gunungkidul Regency," he said.
The beach clean-up also aimed to educate participants on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The activity was supported by Trash Hero Yogyakarta, a community that brings people together voluntarily to clean up and reduce waste.
In addition to cleaning the beach area, the event allowed participants, especially students from UiTM, to learn more about the potential of tourism in the Yogyakarta Special Region, particularly in Gunungkidul Regency. Participants focused on cleaning the beach and discussed sustainable tourism efforts that could be applied in the region.
