JIEB Recognized as an Internationally Reputable Indexed Journal

The Journal of Indonesian Economy and Business (JIEB) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has once again achieved an outstanding milestone. JIEB has been ranked as a Sinta 1 journal and recognized as a reputable internationally indexed scientific journal. This ranking is stated in the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology Decree No. 1438/E5/DT.05.00/2024.

Widya Paramita, Ph.D. (Mita), Editor-in-Chief of JIEB, expressed her gratitude and pride for this achievement. She noted that this success was not instantaneous but resulted from hard work and long-term commitment since JIEB’s inception.

“The JIEB system has been built over a long time, and this achievement is the result of the hard work of the JIEB management over the years, the faculty’s support, and the faculty’s contributions as authors and reviewers,” she said recently.

Mita shared that since its inception in 1986, JIEB has gone through different levels of accreditation, from Sinta 2 to Sinta 1, and achieved Scopus indexing in 2021. This achievement reflects a long journey of maintaining the quality of published articles. In 2021, JIEB entered the Q4 category; in 2022, it advanced to Q3 in accounting, and in 2023 it was indexed in the Q3 category in all fields – accounting, management, and economics.

“It is a remarkable and challenging achievement to move from Q4 to Q3 in one year,” she said.

JIEB has implemented several strategies to gain international recognition. One key strategy is to promote the journal at global conferences. These activities provide opportunities to collaborate with renowned researchers and increase exposure in international forums.

“The rigorous selection of articles for publication is also a key factor,” she emphasized.

JIEB’s achievements significantly impact FEB UGM’s reputation in research and scientific publications. As a journal recognized nationally by Sinta and internationally by Scopus, JIEB is expected to serve as a flagship for FEB UGM, increasing its leverage in fostering international collaborations. In the future, JIEB aims to be included in prestigious international journal databases such as the Web of Science (WoS).

When asked about innovations to sustain its achievements, Mita revealed that JIEB strives to increase citation rates. These efforts include partnerships, such as through international conferences, to expand networks by engaging renowned researchers as part of the editorial team, authors, or reviewers.

As part of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), JIEB promotes inclusivity and relevance of research. It encourages publications that are aligned with SDG themes. For example, since 2020, the Gadjah Mada International Conference on Economics and Business (GAMAICEB) has adopted SDG-related themes such as digitalization, sustainability, inclusivity, and diversity. These efforts aim to inspire researchers to explore SDG-related themes. Published research on SDG themes includes studies on inclusivity and sustainability.

With three issues published annually, JIEB remains committed to providing high-quality articles. It also serves as a platform for collaboration, solidifying its position as one of the leading journals in Indonesia and globally.
