The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM basketball teams made a remarkable achievement at the Gadjah Mada University Sports and Arts Week 2024 (PORSENIGAMA). The men’s and women’s basketball teams won first place in the PORSENIGAMA finals on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at GOR Lembah UGM.

The men’s basketball team, led by Nathanael Alexander Rae Alvis (Management 2023), triumphed over the FT UGM team in a closely contested game, winning 55-44. Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team, led by Najla Widona Bima (Accounting 2023), successfully defeated the FTP team with a final score of 38-18.

FEB UGM’s Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Bayu Sutikno, expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the FEB UGM men’s and women’s basketball teams. “Appreciation and congratulations to the FEB men’s and women’s basketball teams for winning the double championship title in PORSENIGAMA 2024,” Bayu said on Monday (4/11/2024).

Bayu emphasized that the success of the FEB UGM basketball teams resulted from the hard work, dedication, and competitive spirit of all the players, coaches, and staff, as well as the support of Econolympus supporters who fueled the team’s enthusiasm during the games. “This year’s performance surpasses last year’s when the women’s team won the gold medal, and the men’s team won the silver medal. Both teams won two gold medals this year,” he said.

Bayu also emphasized the importance of the values practiced in this competition. The interactions and dynamics in PORSENIGAMA teach students to always be sportsmanlike and respectful of others and promote teamwork. “Make new friends from different faculties. Congratulations to the FEB Basketball teams, enjoy the game, win the game,” he concluded.

FEB UGM Basketball Team Coach Hari Wibowo shared the story behind this achievement. He revealed that this extraordinary achievement began with the formation of the basketball community in May 2023. The existence of this community has been supported by FEB, including providing a basketball court for training at the Leadership Hall MBA FEB UGM.

Hari noted that 2023 was a historic moment for the FEB UGM basketball team. That year, the FEB basketball teams dominated PORSENIGAMA for the first time by becoming double finalists. The women’s team won the first place, and the men’s team won the second place. In addition, two players were awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title: Nathanael for the men’s division and Felia for the women’s division.

The FEB basketball team did not stop there. Determined to continue dominating, they hired a young coach and developed a more intensive, fun training program. The first step was to improve the players’ physical condition and implement strategies to maximize individual skills. As a result, the FEB UGM basketball teams made history at PORSENIGAMA 2024.

“In the future, we will strive to maintain this achievement. Although players come and go due to graduation, we always believe every team member has potential that can be continuously developed,” he concluded.

With this achievement, the FEB UGM basketball teams have demonstrated the spirit of sportsmanship and strong teamwork among the students. This achievement is hoped to inspire other FEB UGM students to excel in various competitions.
