The Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM), actively participated in the Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management (MASUDEM) Final Conference, which took place on November 13–14, 2025, at ICO NIDA, Bangkok. At the event, FEB UGM was represented by the MASUDEM UGM Steering Committee, Prof. Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom., Cand.Merc., Ph.D., and two lecturers from the FEB UGM Management Department, Sari Sitalaksmi, M.Mgt., Ph.D., and Rocky Adiguna, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D.
At the conference titled ‘Advancing Sustainability through Social Science, Management, and Innovation’, FEB UGM shared best practices in developing sustainable education through the launch of the Sustainability Management concentration as the seventh specialization in the FEB UGM Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. Prof. Nurul Indarti, in her presentation entitled ‘Mainstreaming Sustainability Management: The Integration of MASUDEM in the MBA FEB UGM Curriculum,’ explained that through the launch of this concentration, FEB UGM has begun to mainstream sustainable education into its core curriculum. This initiative is the result of a long-term collaboration between universities that are members of the MASUDEM consortium, which has been funded by the European Union through a capacity-building programme for universities since 2022.
Nurul explained that the Sustainability Management concentration in the FEB UGM MBA Programme is complemented by specialised courses such as ESG Investment and Reporting, Environmental Impact Assessment, Sustainability Leadership, and Technology and Innovation Management for Sustainability. This step marks a significant institutional transformation in business education at FEB UGM. Sustainability is no longer an additional subject, but is integrated into the core curriculum and learning practices at the faculty and study programme levels.
In addition to presenting institutional experiences, FEB UGM also sent three young researchers to present their research findings related to sustainability. They are Ferly Arvidia Anindita, who presented a study entitled Determinants of Sustainable Food Waste Management Behaviour: Study on Yogyakarta Province; Wildan Wardana, who presented a study entitled Underlying Factors of Green Innovation Among Fashion Businesses in Indonesia; and Sony Wijaya, who presented a study entitled Lessons Learned from the Failures Experienced by Alumni of the Japanese Internship Programme.
Previously, on 10 November 2025, Prof. Nurul Indarti attended the MASUDEM Steering Committee Meeting. During the meeting, the MASUDEM steering committee evaluated the launch of new master’s programmes or concentrations in sustainability at six ASEAN universities that are members of the MASUDEM consortium. The six universities are UGM (MM FEB Study Programme), UII (MM Study Programme), and Trisakti University (MM Study Programme), as well as three universities from Thailand: the International College of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Srinakharinwirot University, and Naresuan University.
Participation in this international forum reaffirms FEB UGM’s commitment to continuously developing education and research in the field of sustainability. Through collaboration with international consortia such as MASUDEM, FEB UGM strives to produce knowledge, curricula, and learning practices that can address global needs for sustainable management.
