The Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability. This commitment takes the form of various initiatives, one of which is the installation of solar panels to support the electricity needs of the FEB UGM community.
The on-grid solar panel system supports electricity consumption at FEB UGM, particularly during the day. In the future, FEB UGM also plans to expand the installation of solar panels to meet daytime electricity needs more optimally by utilizing solar energy.
The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FEB UGM, Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., emphasized that the use of environmentally friendly energy is a strategic agenda of the faculty, in line with FEB UGM’s sustainability vision and mission.
“In accordance with our mission at FEB UGM to foster sustainability, environmentally friendly energy has become one of our main agendas,” he stated on Monday (15/12/2025) at FEB UGM.
Bayu explained that the solar panels installed on various FEB UGM buildings utilise the available sunlight throughout the year to meet the faculty’s electricity needs. According to him, this initiative not only contributes to energy efficiency and long-term operational cost savings but also represents FEB UGM’s contribution to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals and reducing carbon emissions within the campus environment.
Through the gradual expansion of solar panel installations, FEB UGM hopes to serve as a model of best practice in the use of renewable energy in higher education institutions. Furthermore, it should encourage greater awareness among the academic community of the importance of transitioning to clean, sustainable energy sources.
