Members of the OJK Board of Commissioners Share Tips for Successful Studies to New FEB UGM Students

Inarno Djajadi

Being able to navigate through college smoothly is undoubtedly a dream for everyone. Inarno Djajadi, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and also the Chief Executive of Capital Market, Financial Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange Supervision at OJK, shared tips for successfully studying and building a career in front of 605 new students of FEB UGM on Thursday (1/8) at Plaza FEB UGM.

In the Inspiring Person session of the PIONIR SIMFONI 2024 event, Inarno provided several tips students can apply to survive their studies at FEB UGM. “Congratulations to all of you for being accepted into UGM. Do not waste the opportunity you have received because this is the beginning of your success. Here, I will share some tips to survive at FEB,” said the FEB UGM class of 1981 alumnus.

Inarno shared that the first tip for new students is to manage their social environment. Managing the social environment can start with choosing a place to live that supports study activities. He revealed that while studying at FEB UGM, he decided to stay in a boarding house within the campus area, specifically in the Bulaksumur faculty housing complex. He chose this because the on-campus housing provided a calm atmosphere, supporting his concentration in studying. “It’s important to choose a boarding house with an environment that supports study concentration,” he said.

Besides choosing a place to live, Inarno mentioned the importance of selecting the right circle of friends. He suggested that students should choose friends with a positive aura. “Choose friends with a positive aura, but don’t be exclusive, and you should blend with everyone,” he emphasized.

Inarno added that students must build good relationships and communicate with lecturers. Building good relationships with lecturers will bring positive impacts not only during studies but also when working later on. “Do not see lecturers as supervisors, but as friends. In college, do not just focus on studying but also mingle with other students and lecturers,” he explained.

Inarno stated that to succeed in college, new students must also get to know the campus and its various facilities. Additionally, they should manage their time efficiently and always think positively about multiple things. “The first year is significant and critical. Initially, it will feel tough for those away from their parents, so they need to adapt to the new environment. However, I believe it will be easier to get ahead if you get through the first year,” he said.

Inarno also advised FEB UGM students always to uphold integrity, honesty, and good governance when entering the workforce. This principle aligns with the ethical values of FEB UGM, one of which is maintaining integrity. “Never take shortcuts, no matter the lure; you must maintain integrity. I am where I am today because I highly uphold integrity,” he concluded.
