Who doesn’t want a brilliant career in the business world? The Bachelor of Management program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) is a top choice for prospective students who aspire to become future business leaders. Curious about what’s covered in the program and the career opportunities it offers? Let’s dive in!

A Popular Program

The Bachelor of Management Study Program at FEB UGM is one of the most popular programs at UGM, attracting applicants from all over Indonesia. This program is highly competitive, with 7,334 applicants in 2024 and an acceptance rate of 41.90%, meaning that only 1 out of 41 applicants is accepted.

The FEB UGM Management Program is known not only for its popularity but also for its consistent academic excellence. It is among the FEB UGM programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In addition, the program has received the “Unggul” (Excellent) accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Economics, Management, Business and Accounting (LAMEMBA).

Unique Features

This program is distinguished by its 3C (Character, Competency, Contribution)- based curriculum, which is designed to prepare students to excel in the workforce.

I Wayan Nuka Lantara, M.Si., Ph.D., head of FEB UGM’s Bachelor of Management program, explained that the curriculum aims to produce graduates who can address business challenges with a multi-perspective approach. “We want students to master different disciplines such as marketing, finance, and human resources to be fully prepared for the workforce,” he said.

To implement the curriculum, students take character-building courses in their first year. Over the next four semesters, they delve deeper into management competencies through required and elective faculty courses. In their final two semesters, students engage in real-world contributions such as community service, internships, or organizational activities to enhance their skills and gain experience.

Global Opportunities and Sustainability

The FEB UGM Management Program has an extensive network of global partners on nearly every continent. This global collaboration provides students with significant international exposure through exchange programs and summer courses. These opportunities allow students to experience studying abroad and prepare them for global competition.

FEB UGM is also part of the Partnership of Asian Management Schools (PAMS), a collaborative academic program involving four Asian universities: Woosong University (South Korea, coordinator), Foreign Trade University (Vietnam), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Malaysia), and Sun Yat-Sen University (China). This program offers cutting-edge teaching and international learning discussions.

In addition, Dr. Wayan noted that the program has revised its curriculum to emphasize sustainability. This aligns with FEB UGM’s mission to develop future leaders in business and economics with a focus on sustainability. One example is transforming the Business Ethics course into Business Ethics and Sustainability.

“These adjustments are applied not only at the course level but also in daily campus life. We encourage students to participate in leadership activities related to business sustainability, reduce plastic waste by using tumblers, and practice reduce, reuse, and recycle,” Dr. Wayan explained.

Student Skills Development

Students in the management program are expected to acquire skills relevant to the demands of the workforce. The faculty facilitates several mandatory soft skills development programs, such as writing skills, public speaking, leadership, and anti-plagiarism training, to support this. These programs are designed to enhance communication skills and instill strong academic ethics. Students are encouraged to join organizations, sports clubs, and international competitions to hone their skills.

Bella Josephine, a 2021 Management student, shared her positive experience at the FEB UGM. She gained extensive business insights, especially opportunities for international exposure, such as lectures by visiting professors from abroad.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Sukron Mahfud, a 2022 Management student, appreciated the program’s hands-on approach to learning. “Learning goes beyond classroom theory; we apply it to real business scenarios,” he said.

The program’s student association organizes events such as seminars, workshops, competitions, and curated markets. These activities allow students to gain hands-on experience in event management, generating profits, and real-world business skills. Sukron highlighted his studies’ interactive and hands-on nature and particularly enjoyed the Leading Change course.

“We were tasked with analyzing real cases from companies, from creating urgency to building strong coalitions and implementing sustainable change based on Kotter’s eight steps,” he explained.
