The Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM) is once again in mourning. One of its finest sons, H. Faried Widjaya Mansoer, M.A., Ph.D., passed away on Friday, 31 October 2025, at the age of 82, at 08:45 at Mitra Cibubur Hospital. The faculty laid him to rest at the UGM Family Cemetery in Sawitsari on Saturday, 1 November 2025.
The Dean of FEB UGM, Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com., Ak., CA., expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of H. Faried Widjaja Mansoer, M.A., P.hD., MA. FEB UGM has lost a dedicated and inspiring figure in the world of education, especially in the field of economics.
“We express our deepest condolences. May the deceased rest in peace, and may his family be given sincerity and patience,” said Didi.
Dr. Bagus Santoso, M.Soc.Sc., said that the late H. Faried Widjaja Mansoer, M.A., P.h.D., M.A., was a lecturer, parent, senior, mentor, and colleague in the Department of Economics. He had served as a lecturer since 1979, when FEB was still known as the Faculty of Economics and was in the process of establishing its form. The condition of the Faculty of Economics at that time was very different from the current FEB UGM, which has developed rapidly, is highly competitive, and is supported by modern and sophisticated infrastructure.
Faried Widjaja once served as Head of the Department of Economics and Development Studies (IESP), now known as Head of the Department of Economics at FEB UGM. He played a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for the advancement of the Department of Economics, making it one of the top departments in Indonesia. The governance system he pioneered became an essential foundation for the continuity of leadership in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM.
“He also helped establish MEP UGM, a study programme that has produced many leaders in local government in Indonesia,”he added.
He added that Mr. Faried was known to love the FEB UGM family dearly and was a warm, humble, humorous, wise, and forgiving person. As a teacher, he guided with love, and as a colleague, he spread the spirit of togetherness. Many remember him as a visionary with fresh ideas and broad perspectives.
“May his exemplary character and legacy of kindness continue to be a guiding light for us all,” he hoped.
H. Faried Widjaya Mansoer, M.A., Ph.D., was born in Solo on 27 April 1943. He completed his undergraduate studies at UGM in 1968. He then obtained a Master’s degree in Public Policy/Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder campus in 1984 and a doctorate from the same institution in 1986. He began his career as a lecturer at FEB UGM in 1969 and retired in 2008.
