The Greenish Team of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) secured the 2nd place in the Business Case Competition (BCC) of the National Energy Festival (NEF). The Student Energy Council organized this competition under the UGM Energy Studies Center on November 23, 2024, at the University Club.
The team consisting of Lutfiah Sukmaningrum (Economics 2023), Adinda Kurnia Anggitya Adha (Accounting 2023), and Ziana Ahnas (Law 2023) won the title after competing against dozens of teams from universities across Indonesia. Participants were challenged to present innovative solutions in renewable energy and electricity.
Lutfiah explained that the competition required teams to go through three stages of selection: preliminary, semifinal, and final. In each stage, participants worked on different cases. The preliminary round tested the feasibility analysis for a geothermal power plant project, while the semifinals focused on solar photovoltaic power plants. In the final round, participants were tasked with designing a business strategy for PLN EPI as a biomass supplier for co-firing in a coal-fired power plant (PLTU).
"All the cases were related to renewable energy and electricity with PT. PLN Indonesia," she explained on Thursday (11/28/2024).
All participants were required to analyze issues related to the unequal distribution of electricity and propose innovations to promote renewable energy, such as increasing the energy mix and reducing carbon emissions. They also had to consider the feasibility and profitability of their proposed solutions.
For the Greenish team, the main challenge in this competition was obtaining relevant data and understanding the technical studies related to power plants. This was particularly important as the team members' backgrounds were primarily in the social sciences and humanities. They also had to manage their time effectively to balance the competition with their academic responsibilities.
"The process was quite intense, but we found the knowledge gained from FEB and FH UGM very helpful, especially in critical thinking, case analysis, and the final presentation," Adinda added.
She expressed her gratitude and pride that the Greenish team brought home an award in this competition. Their hard work over almost half a semester paid off. She hopes this achievement will inspire and motivate other FEB UGM students to excel and bring recognition to FEB UGM in various competitions.
