The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM), continues to enhance its contribution to the university’s Tri Dharma (three pillars of higher education). This commitment is reflected in the transformation of the Center for Economic and Business Development (P2EB) into the Research, Development, and Societal Impact (RDSI) unit.
Expanding Impact
This transformation is aimed at strengthening FEB UGM’s role in conducting research with broad societal impact while fostering strategic collaborations with various stakeholders. Additionally, it seeks to enhance the contributions of FEB’s three departments in research and community service.
Prof. Gugup Kismono, Ph.D., Head of RDSI FEB UGM, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the faculty’s long-term strategy to fulfill its vision of developing future leaders in economics and business, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
“This transformation is a strategic step to enhance and facilitate both academic and commercial activities. More importantly, it ensures that research conducted at FEB UGM is not only academically rigorous but also delivers tangible benefits to society, businesses, and industries,” he explained.
Prof. Gugup also highlighted that RDSI will serve as a platform for young faculty members to actively participate in Tri Dharma initiatives while providing an ideal environment for research assistants to develop their expertise, particularly for those pursuing careers in academia.
Moving forward, RDSI is committed to expanding its research and community engagement through a range of strategic initiatives. With the strong support of the faculty and academic community, this transformation is expected to enhance FEB UGM’s national and international standing.
To maximize the societal impact of its research, RDSI is adopting a more integrative and collaborative approach, forging partnerships with government agencies, industries, and local communities. Additionally, RDSI aims to broaden its international collaborations in education, research, and development. These initiatives not only reinforce the Tri Dharma mandate but also support FEB UGM’s pursuit of national and international accreditation goals.
Flagship Programs
In the near future, RDSI will continue to run its flagship programs, including tax-related courses and certifications, TOEFL preparation programs, and partnerships with local governments and industries. These initiatives will undergo continuous evaluation and refinement to align with industry and societal demands.
Beyond maintaining existing programs, RDSI is also developing new strategic initiatives tailored to emerging needs. A key focus will be addressing industry and societal gaps, such as adapting to regulatory changes in the financial sector. Additionally, RDSI plans to strengthen research on sustainability, with the goal of providing actionable insights and practical solutions for businesses and industries.
The establishment of RDSI marks a significant milestone in FEB UGM’s ongoing commitment to creating real societal impact. Through structured strategies and extensive collaboration, RDSI is poised to become a leading center for research and development, delivering innovative solutions to economic and business challenges in the future.
