Founder of PT Jakarta Setiabudi Internasional who is also member of Presidential Advisory Board, Jan Darmadi, said while doing business businessmen ought not to victimise other people.
"Businessmen may look for high profit but ought not to victimise the people," he said whilst giving a public lecture in the Auditorium of Master Management UGM on Friday (20/10).
In a lecturer titled "Ways of Leadership and Life," he shared a reflection of his experience in doing business for over 50 years. To the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students attending the lecture, he shared the principles important for their future career.
"What I share here is the reflection of my life as a businessman for the basis and core in doing business and living," said Darmadi.
He reminded young people that want to go into business that businessmen also have social responsibility to the people. So, apart from having good education, they also need to have leadership characters to succeed.
Some assets that need to be possessed by a leader include integrity, loyalty, responsibility, honesty, and big heart. A leader in his opinion has more responsibilities than his subordinates. He asked the students to make the most of the time at the university and use the knowledge responsibly after graduation.
Another member of Presidential Advisory Board who is also lecturer of Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, Prof. Dr. Sri Adiningsih, M.Sc., appreciates this lecture. In her views, this was an important moment for the students to learn from practitioners that had long run the business.
"It’s not enough for the students to only learn courses in class, but also to listen to people who have undergone the ups and downs of the country’s economy and the world, to be more advancing," she said.
She further expected the lecture would give motivation and optimism to the students amidst the flourishing economy that offers new opportunities.
"When you have graduated in the next year or two, you will see a better economy. So, you need to understand what happened, learning the conditions that affect business environment to be able to deal with the existing dynamics," she said.
