SMU Winter Data Camp 2023

Being a student is a valuable time to gain a lot of knowledge, not only from campus but also outside the campus. To facilitate students in self-development, the Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Accountancy organises activities like “Winter Data Camp: Digital Transformation and Financial Analytics using Python.” This event takes place for a week from 13-25 February 2023 online via Zoom Meetings. This event is intended for students and professionals from various countries, namely Singapore, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Australia, and the Philippines.

Winter data camp aims to introduce students and professionals to explore the latest trends in accounting, acquire Python programming fundamentals and applications for stock market analysis, and learn how to develop digital transformation strategies using Business Model Canvas (BMC). Profits following winter data camp are to learn directly from experienced accounting experts. The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) sent two Accounting Study Program students to participate in the activity, namely Eilena Verdine Nathania and Wynto, accounting students class of 2019.

There are eight sessions on winter data camp with various serial presentations, including Digital Transformation and Business Models, Introduction to Phyton Programming, Stock Market Financial Analytics and Data Visualization, and Application for Finance. There were also two webinar sessions in this training activity, namely the first webinar covering Industry Talk with CFO &Managing Director Automobili Lamborghini, Mr Paolo Poma. The second webinar raised the topic of The Future of Accounting.

At the end of the session, each team consisting of 7 people gave a group presentation on the analysis they had made. Eilena Verdine Nathania, a member of group 4, researched Tesla, one of the leading automotive and energy companies, and provided recommendations on whether it was better to invest in Tesla stock based on our analysis. Based on the assessment, group 4 became the best Presenting Group because it presented the final project with in-depth analysis and structured presentation.

β€œIt was a special experience for me because I had the opportunity to participate course organised by one of the top universities in Singapore. The session was interactive, and the professor explained complex material to make it easier to understand. Besides that, I can have fun and get to know other participants from various countries, making the whole experience so memorable,” said Eilena, one of the participants.
