The welcoming of new students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) will retake place on July 31 and August 1, 2024, through the Socialization and Initiation of Faculty of Economics and Business Students (SIMFONI) event. This year, SIMFONI carries the theme "Gadjah Mada Young Powerful Leaders in Structuring the Sustainability of the Archipelago."
The Vice Dean of FEB UGM for Academic and Student Affairs, Bayu Sutikno, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D., stated that SIMFONI will be attended by 605 new undergraduate students this year. This event is an initiation and socialization program for new students, routinely organized annually by FEB UGM. SIMFONI is part of the UGM PIONIR New Student Successful Learners Training (PPSMB) activities from July 29 to August 3, 2024.
"SIMFONI serves as a social interaction point between new students, senior students, and the academic community of FEB UGM. This activity emphasizes intellectual attitudes that rely on smart thinking, maturity in speech and action, non-violence, and upholding the values of Pancasila," he said on Friday (26/7) at FEB UGM.
Bayu mentioned that this year's SIMFONI carries a sustainability theme. This aligns with the mission of FEB UGM to cultivate future leaders in economics and business who develop sustainability aspects. In this SIMFONI event, all new students will receive socialization related to the prevention of sexual violence, waste reduction on campus, academic integrity, introduction to the Career and Student Development Unit (CSDU), the Global Relations and Mobility Office (GREAT), and other activities.
"Welcome to the young Gadjah Mada at the FEB UGM campus, where all study programs have been internationally accredited by AACSB and rated Excellent by LAMEMBA," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of SIMFONI 2024, Ghiyats Thariq Al-Haq, added that SIMFONI is not only held as an introduction to the campus for new students. SIMFONI is also conducted as a learning and preparation tool for new students to adapt to campus life.
In 2024, SIMFONI carries the theme "Gadjah Mada Young Powerful Leaders in Structuring the Sustainability of the Archipelago." Ghiyats explained that this theme signifies that the young Gadjah Mada students of FEB UGM, as future leaders of the nation, are expected to develop initiatives for the sustainability of the archipelago.
"Through this SIMFONI event, it is hoped that young Gadjah Mada students will find it easier to adapt when they start their studies," he said.
