Five Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM students have successfully transformed cocoa beans into high-quality cosmetic products. The product, called Kakolie Beauty, was developed using cocoa beans that had yet to be fully optimized. It transformed them into body care products that naturally lighten the skin, prevent fine lines, and are suitable for sensitive skin.

Jeanette Sabrina Nainggolan, one of the founders of Kakolie Beauty, shared that she and her team developed the products using cocoa beans from Desa Putat in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, which is known as a significant cocoa-producing area. The product development aimed to increase the utility and economic value of cocoa.

Jeanette, along with four of her classmates from the 2022 Management Program, Karina Mutia Azrah, Gracella Tambunan, Hanna Takiya Irfan Bey, and Raisa Aulia, worked to transform cocoa into various body care products, including body soap, body scrub, and body lotion.

“We wanted to create a personal care product using cocoa beans, which have a high antioxidant content and are therefore good for the skin,” she explained on Sunday (Nov 10).

The innovative efforts of these young students earned them third place in the YES! X CSDU pre-incubation business program at the Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK UGM) on November 10, 2024. They received a business grant of Rp 10,000,000 to support the future development of their business.

Karina added that Kakolie Beauty was developed through the YES! X CSDU pre-incubation business program. During the program, she and the team received mentoring and various training sessions, which immensely helped them develop their business.

“I am very grateful to have participated in this program as the materials and training provided helped us explore the world of entrepreneurship and start our business,” she said.
