The 35th-anniversary reunion of the KAFEGAMA Class of 1991 was not only an opportunity to reflect on their time studying at FEB UGM. The event also served as a chance for alums to give back to their alma mater by providing educational assistance to FEB UGM students.
The grants were awarded to five undergraduate students from various majors, each receiving Rp3 million. Providing these educational grants is part of the alums’s effort to pass on the benefits they once received during their time at FEB UGM. After 35 years, the experiences gained by the alums are not just personal journeys but can also be shared with the next generation of students.
The scholarship presentation was part of the KAFEGAMA 1991 35th Anniversary Reunion, which carried the themes “Back to Campus: Sharing Journeys, Inspiring Futures” and “Reuni Meneh: Weaving Memories, Strengthening Brotherhood.” The event took place on the 6th floor of the Pertamina Tower at FEB UGM on Friday, September 25.
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM, Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com, Ak., CA., expressed his appreciation for the generosity of the KAFEGAMA 1991 alums, who turned the reunion into an opportunity to share and provide benefits to students.
“Through the theme ‘Sharing Journeys, Inspiring Futures,’ we deeply appreciate the initiative of the Class of 1991, which not only evokes nostalgia but also shares valuable experiences and provides scholarships or tuition assistance to five of our undergraduate students from various majors,” said Didi.
According to Didi, alum support plays a vital role in strengthening the bond between the alma mater and the broader FEB UGM community. This collaboration also aligns with FEB UGM’s efforts to contribute to community well-being and sustainable development.
“We certainly cannot realize this grand vision on our own without the synergistic support of the broader Kafegama community,” he said.
Mukhlis Ishak, Chair of the KAFEGAMA Class of 1991, said the reunion was an effort to rekindle memories of their time as students, including the role faculty members played in shaping their journeys.
“We arrived on campus with a blank slate, full of uncertainty, in the midst of searching for our identities, and the faculty were there as our mentors. They didn’t just impart knowledge, but also shared wisdom on how to navigate the world,” said Mukhlis.
According to him, the alums’s journey over the past 35 years is inextricably linked to the learning and guidance they received while at FEB UGM. Therefore, the reunion serves as an opportunity to express appreciation to the faculty members once again and to strengthen ties with their alma mater.
