Rosma Handayani

Investment in technology and workforce development has become the cornerstone of PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s (KAI) success in meeting the transportation industry’s increasingly complex challenges.

Shared by Rosma Handayani, Managing Director of Human Capital & General Affairs at PT KAI, during the Executive Series on “Building Sustainable Human Resources: Transformation, Innovation, and Leadership at PT KAI”. The event was organized by the Master of Business Administration Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (MBA FEB UGM) on November 22nd.

Rosma highlighted the significant challenges faced by PT KAI, including the digitalization of transportation, intensifying competition, and changing customer expectations, particularly from millennials and Gen Z. To address these challenges, PT KAI is leveraging data to understand better customer needs, which are predominantly driven by these younger generations. A focus accompanies this approach on digital skills development, green mobility, and cross-sector collaboration as crucial efforts to build a safe and sustainable rail industry.

Rosma further explained that investing in technology and upgrading the skills of its employees is critical to PT KAI’s success in navigating the future. The company consistently pursues digital business processes and automation to reduce operational costs while improving efficiency and customer service.

“With a commitment to good corporate governance, PT KAI is committed to becoming an effective and data-driven leader,” said Rosma, a graduate of MM FEB UGM.

Meanwhile, Prof. Amin Wibowo, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D., Head of the Master of Management Program at FEB UGM’s Yogyakarta campus, noted in his opening remarks that the Executive Series is designed to provide students with valuable insights into leadership at PT KAI. “Through this Executive Series, we hope to help students understand how to become exemplary leaders, create positive impact, and serve as role models in driving sustainable change,” he said.
