Dr. Setiyono, M.B.A., Ak., C.A., a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 58, while in Medina for an umrah pilgrimage. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Dr. Setiyono was laid to rest in Medina on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

The Dean of FEB UGM, Dr. Didi Achjari, M.Com., Ak., CA., expressed that FEB UGM has lost a dedicated and inspiring figure in the field of education, particularly in accounting. On behalf of the FEB UGM community, he conveyed profound condolences on Dr. Setiyono’s passing.

“May Allah S.W.T. grant him a peaceful place, and may his good deeds be accepted. May his family find strength and patience in this time of loss,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean of FEB UGM for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Suyanto, S.E., M.B.A., Ph.D., who is also a colleague in the Department of Accounting, shared that he first knew Dr. Setiyono when he served as the Head of Quality Assurance at FEB UGM. He described Dr. Setiyono as an idealistic, firm, and straightforward individual who played a crucial role in securing AACSB reaccreditation for FEB UGM in 2019.

“He always reminded us to work hard, be professional, and stay committed to achieving the best results,” he stated.

Dr. Setiyono was born in Surakarta on June 9, 1966. Beginning his career journey at FEB UGM in 1992, he made significant contributions to research in accounting, particularly in taxation and financial accounting.

He completed his undergraduate studies at U.G.M. in 1990, earned his Master of Business Administration from Western Michigan University in 1994, and his doctorate from Temple University in 2007.

In addition to his academic role, Dr. Setiyono served as the Secretary of the FEB UGM Master of Management Program at the Jakarta campus in 2015 and as the Director of Finance and Assets at UGM’s Academic Hospital from 2011 to 2014. For his dedication to advancing education, the Indonesian Government awarded the Satyalancana Karya Satya X honor in 2024 and a 25 Years of Loyalty Award by Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2017.

Dr. Setiyono’s passing leaves a lasting memory for the FEB UGM family. His dedication to education and invaluable contributions will continue to inspire his colleagues, students, and the entire academic community. Farewell, Dr. Setiyono.
