Pursuing a career at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is a dream for many. With a clear career path and guaranteed income stability, this state-owned institution is a significant attraction.
However, getting into OJK is a challenging feat. The selection process, known as Pendidikan Calon Staf (PCS), is highly competitive, making entry into OJK increasingly challenging. Every year, tens of thousands of applicants compete for positions that only a few hundred individuals can fill.
To prepare its students to compete in the job market, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) hosted the Alumni Sharing 2024 session virtually via Zoom on Wednesday (12/11/2024). This event aimed to provide insights to students aspiring to build a career at OJK. FEB UGM invited its alums who successfully passed the OJK selection to share their experiences, tips, and strategies for securing a position at OJK.
Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., FEB UGM Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Alumni, expressed his appreciation for the exchange session. He hoped the event would provide new perspectives for students and recent graduates interested in pursuing a career at OJK after graduation.
Irfan Fawwaz Nabil Ramadhan, a 2017 Management graduate, shared his tips for joining OJK. First, he emphasized the importance of preparing a portfolio relevant to the financial sector. This portfolio could include research, papers, or coursework related to the financial industry, such as cryptocurrency, green finance, and fintech. In addition, he recommended enhancing one's profile by gaining internship experience in the financial services industry, such as with banks or financial regulators.
Nurul Islami Putri, a 2018 economics graduate, explained the stages of the PCS selection process. The six stages include administrative selection, Assessment I (Basic Competency Test or TKD), OJK-specific and English tests, and Assessment II (personality test and psychological interview). The following stages are the user interview with OJK management, a medical examination, and the final submission of original documents, which is required in the first stage. She advised participants to prepare for the interviews in both Indonesian and English, as the language used may be kept secret in advance.
Nefita Nafatulloh, a 2019 economics graduate, shared tips for navigating the selection process. She emphasized the importance of practicing test questions independently and using YouTube to prepare for the TKD. For the OJK-specific test, she recommended studying materials available on the OJK website and free videos on the OJK LMS platform. According to her, much of the material on the OJK website and LMS is relevant to the questions on the OJK-specific test.
Yudiantoro Wibisono, a 2019 accounting graduate, suggested using the STAR (Situation-Task-Action-Result) to provide clear and structured answers during the user interview. He also emphasized the importance of demonstrating a willingness to contribute when joining OJK. "Self-promotion is fine, but don't go overboard or come across as condescending. Feel free to share experiences relevant to OJK," he explained.
